Construction Starts on New Primary School on Haddington Road, Dublin 4

Construction work has commenced on a new 24 classroom primary school building for the Department of Education and Skills at Haddington Road, Dublin 4
The works involves the demolition of the existing unoccupied secondary school on the site and construction of a new 3 storey primary school to modern education standards. Located on a narrow site, the new building mirrors the footprint of the existing school, reinstating the existing street edges on the site.
The brick façade was carefully considered to relate to the existing terraced context, with ground floor set back at the corner to form the main entrance from Haddington Road. Pupil entrance from Haddington Place Major provides direct access to the playground behind.
Teaching spaces and special education rooms are configured around class groupings, with junior pupils based at ground levels and seniors on the second floor. All stairs discharge directly to the playground area to the rear. A double height general purpose space is located to the rear of the site. Rooftop external play, accessed from the second floor, is provided atop the general purpose room.
Construction is due for Completion in April/May 2017 for school opening in September 2017.
