Ballymakenny Post-Primary School Drogheda
Ballymakenny is a 9,860sqm, 1000 pupil post-primary school with sports hall built on a new greenfield education campus in Drogheda. The campus is shared with a primary school.
This is a new build post-primary school jointly run by Louth Meath ETB and Educate Together. Entrance and exit to the campus are shared while separate staff car parking and set-down areas are provided.
It is designed within three main blocks of accommodation set around a U-shaped courtyard, with social areas and the General Purpose area facing onto this sheltered sun filled space. The three and two storey blocks accommodate a mixture of specialist rooms and general classrooms. The main elevation to Ballymakenny Road gives a strong civic presence to the site, and features a prominent and welcoming entrance. A Special Needs Unit has discreet independent access directly accessed from the main set-down area and looks onto a sheltered, south facing, secure garden and play space.
A secondary entrance is provided on the north elevation giving access to the General Purpose Area and P.E. hall, both of which are designed for out of hours use by the community and the Primary School.
The Primary School was completed and fully operational in advance of the Post-Primary School and appropriate separation of construction traffic and school areas was undertaken as part of the construction process.
