Blackrock College, Senior School
Set amid historic buildings on the long established campus of Blackrock College the new Senior School building of 4,400m2 is the first phase of major development to transform the College into a 21st Century school. Classrooms face east and are warmed by the morning sun, while the social spaces open westwards to the grassed quadrangle that is the focus of the school. The new building is seamlessly linked to the retained Chapel and Jubilee Hall. Ducts in the ceilings of the social areas allow classrooms to be efficiently cross-ventilated: the vents open in response to CO2 and temperature sensors. The retained school buildings for the younger pupils have been renovated over successive years.
