Broome Lodge, Cabra
Broome Lodge is a new build social housing project for older persons, developed and managed by Clúid Housing Association. It provides 43 accessible, one and two bedroom apartments, and a single guest apartment, with communal facilities including, reception office, multi-purpose community room, lounge area and laundry room.
The building is back from a boundary of mature trees and historic church railings, resulting in a south facing garden for residents.
It has a single main entrance to ensure a sense of community, ease of onsite management and improved security. The apartments are arranged around a landscaped court, all apartments have south east or west aspect, generous windows and balconies. The central circulation around the court ensures connectivity between all residents. Each apartment has a considered entrance door, to give a sense of individual 'home' within the community.
COADY collaborated with the National Disability Authority to ensure the building was exemplar in universal design. All units have fully accessible bathrooms. Bespoke kitchens in line with NDA's guidelines were installed in a number of units, interconnecting doors to bathrooms, power points for future provision of electric assistive devices. Feature colours to the lifts, staircores and provided subtle wayfinding for residents.
The feedback from residents has been exceptional and Clúid have adopted the project as their older person housing exemplar, informing their design standards.
