CAET Building, TUD
The Culinary Arts, Engineering and Teaching (CAET) Building, TUD project is part of the Higher Education PPP Programme.
COADY Architects is leading an architectural team including FCBS and BDP to provide technical advisory services for the Higher Education PPP Programme (Bundle 1) being procured and delivered by the National Development Finance Agency on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills and the Higher Education Authority. The design team also includes JV Tierney Consulting Engineers, Mott McDonald and Linesight. Bundle 1 involves Project Facilities at six Higher Education Institutions across the country, including the new CAET Building at TUD Tallaght campus.
COADY Architects has a long history of involvement with the Institute of Technology campus in Tallaght, and most recently designed a new Sports, Health & Recreation Building (SSHR), as part of an AECOM led design team, which was granted planning in March 2019.
The 5,190sqm CAET Building houses the faculties of Culinary Arts and Engineering and is one of a series of planned buildings to provide a future quadrangle to the rear of the main building. The building is a compact three-storey rectangular stone clad block with a cantilevered first floor providing a walkway across campus. The technical teaching spaces of the two faculties are arranged around a central atrium with glazed viewing panels to allow visibility. Breakout spaces on each floor allow for informal learning and gathering. Linkages are provided to kitchen gardens to the rear. The CAET Building was granted planning in August 2019.
