Kenmare Residential Healthcare Unit, Co. Kerry
This competition design winning scheme provides 42 long stay bedrooms including a dementia unit. It is based on the ‘Household’ model for residential care facilities, with bedrooms grouped around living and dining spaces, focused on surrounding gardens and courtyards. A rich and colourful palette of planting has been provided to reflect the variety of the local landscape. The building has a domestic character, with warm colours and comfortable ambience creating a welcoming home for all. It offers many opportunities for residents to engage in care, social and gardening activities. This is a highly sustainable building with a small carbon footprint and A2 Building Energy Rating.
