Primary Care Centre, Limerick
This new Primary Healthcare facility, located on a brownfield site off Lord Edward St, Limerick City, provides a one-stop-shop comprising four GP suites, Public Health Nursing consulting rooms, Children & Family services, physiotherapy and administrative offices.
The two storey civic building is set within a site adjacent to an existing student housing scheme and a local authority housing scheme is planned for the neighbouring site which is part of a protected structure and requires sensitive treatment in terms of building conservation. The scheme provides car parking for 49 cars located to the front of the building and caters for 30% expansion within the site.
On entering the generously proportioned brightly lit foyer / reception area, access is easily afforded to waiting areas for the GP suites at ground floor. The building has been designed to allow flexibility internally to accommodate future re-planning of spaces and extension of GP suites, should this be required. Careful attention has been paid to the palette of materials internally and externally and to the use of colour and graphics / wayfinding to ensure ease of circulation for members of the public visiting the building, particularly for the first time. Acoustic separation between spaces has also been given careful consideration.
The building has been designed to achieve an A3 BER Energy Rating and is fully accessible to all.
