St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge
In October 2018 Coady Architects secured planning permission for a new grandstand for St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge for Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Cill Dara.
St Conleth’s Park is the county grounds for Kildare GAA and the project will deliver a contemporary, fit for purpose fully covered main stand with associated infrastructure.
The site is compact within its urban setting and lies in close proximity to adjacent residential properties. The new stand has been designed to minimise actual and apparent scale and massing through careful consideration of height, design and use of materials.
The demolition of the existing stand and clubhouse will make way for a new 2 storey facility comprising of a VIP hospitality suite, multi-purpose room and bar as well as spectator seating, players and officials changing areas, concourses, toilet areas, first-aid, administrative offices, confectionery/snack-bar facilities, stores and ancillary areas.
The existing main entrance to the stadium will be modified to create a new entrance plaza incorporating a stand-alone ticket office. The plaza will also contain elements of soft landscaping in the form of raised planter beds and semi-mature trees and will provide a pre-match gathering and meeting place for spectators.
The proposed design has been influenced by the character and constraints of the existing site and client brief including the provision of improved access and egress. Community and key stakeholder consultations were undertaken and have contributed to the proposed scheme design.
