Wilson Lynch Building, Galway Racecourse
The Wilson Lynch Building replaces the old Tote Betting hall at Galway Race Course. Construction works commenced immediately when the Galway Races Summer Festival finished in August 2017 and the completed building was handed over in time for the Galway Races Summer Festival of 2018.
The new building re-configures the area north of the bookmakers ring, opening up a former pedestrian bottleneck allowing a better flow of race-goers in and around the bookmakers ring, parade ring, millennium stand and on the approach to the weigh-room building.
As well as increasing the betting hall capacity to 1400 people, the new building provides a specially designed Champagne Bar, at first floor, catering to 1100 people. The first floor provides panoramic views over the bookmakers ring, parade ring and onto the racecourse itself adding a sense of dynamism to this area of the enclosure. In its first festival, the Wilson Lynch Building has already become a destination for visitors to the Galway Races.
